๐Ÿ˜ญ Addressing commitment creep...

I donโ€™t know about you but, for me, January and February were a big olโ€™ cluster f! I was not ready to start 2023 yet. My health was wonky, my computer broke, and I had to quit a bunch of activities and groups I actually love but simply could not handle. Iโ€™m DONE with that overcommitted-never-has-time-for-friends life!

I used to be the person who always said to my family "sorry, I can't make it, I have a show/class/rehearsal/project." Well, about 5 years ago I went through a major burn out ๐Ÿ’จ (some day I'll tell you all about it) and decided that I didn't want to be that person any more. The lockdown of the pandemic helped me stay true to my word but toward the end of 2022 I could feel my calendar getting too full again with...

"commitment creep"

You know, when slowly over time you just end up involved in way too many things?

Thankfully, this time I recognized the warning signs ๐Ÿ’ฃ and I had the wisdom to address it. I'm so freaking proud of myself for that. It is NOT EASY to quit activities you love doing, step down from what you told others you would do, or release projects that make you feel important. I cried like a baby as I sent all those text messages and emails telling the music ensemble I can't play with them this semester, the research collective that I have to take a break, and the dance company that I can't participate. I really love those activities!!! But I love my health, my relationships, and my purpose more.

And you know whatโ€™s really cool?

I actually feel intense enthusiasm, energy, and motivation for the projects I did decide to keep pursuing. ๐Ÿ”ฅ And I want to tell you about one of them!

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Save the date!

Iโ€™m producing a GORGEOUS dance show in Austin, TX that will also be streamed online!

This is not your average glitchy live-stream, either! (Hello wide cinematic crane shot and tight shot to see up close and personal with a live switcher cutting between the two angles! ๐Ÿคฏ)

We've been working hard to put together this epic theater show on a topic very dear to me. Please write this date in your calendar:

In the Lap of the Garden

๐ŸŒน an offering of devotion to Mother Nature ๐ŸŒน

through raqs sharqi, Persian and transcultural dance

featuring The Cohesion Collective and Nafas Dance Ensemble

May 27, 2023

in Austin, TX & streaming online

The last few weeks have felt like the beginning of the year for me. Like Iโ€™ve finally cleaned out all the cobwebs and Iโ€™m ready for whatโ€™s to come! (I even finally disassembled my Christmas tree last week ๐Ÿ˜†).

Iโ€™m wishing you the same inner peace, spacious calendar, and enthusiasm for what really matters to you. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

If you don't have that right now, then I wish you the courage and self love to quit what you donโ€™t have time and energy for. You can do it.

Warmly,
April Rose ๐ŸŒน
