Shenzhen

I’m teaching at a government sponsored dance festival in Shenzhen, China.  I won’t see much of China while I’m here but I’m situated in some beautiful verdant hills away from the city. Most of the photos are from the hotel where the festival is located, which is an accurate depiction of what I see most of the time when I travel…

The hotel is very decadent….with a man made water fall outside my window…

And many colorful chirping birds in large cages in the lobby

But as with all decadent things there is a dark underbelly…

The festival boasts many excellent teachers from around the world. Each of us have a banner in the grand ballroom.

We are working hard dancing all day. These photos below were taken after some of my classes.

And we performed in a big hall for government officials.

That last one is me with my stage make-up on.

I also judged a competition. There was a children’s category and they absolutely blew me away! I’m pretty sure I’m against the idea of dance competitions, especially for children, but I did enjoy the show and these beautiful young ladies’ dancing.

Here is a video of some instructional choreography I taught:

I leave Shenzhen for Hong Kong now and then head to Taipei.
