I’ve been locked away in my family’s sewing room for the last month or so, sewing day and night. I’m making 6 new costumes for the new Bellydance Superstars show, “The Magic of Dance,” which debuts the second week of October. We are touring this show throughout the US in the fall so check out tour dates by clicking: here. The photos below are just a few in-progress pieces out of my new arsenal of costumes.
Mad Max Glam–
–I’m trying to make this costume as if I was the beautiful and bad ass Sabrina Fox.
It’s a good try but nowhere near her dark elegant magnificence!
Black, Gold, and Green–
My mother in law hand beaded and embroidered the decorations and drapes for this costume!
This delicate one is a work in progress that will stay with me for a lifetime.
Tribal Alien Collar–
–Thank goodness for that putty-tack glue that allows for metal-on-metal experimentation.
Still deciding what to do with this one.
Americana Kitschy Gypsy—
–Black and white prison stripes, turquoise buttons, silver hearts, and coin drapes.
Some old costume pieces you just can’t take apart–
-like my old UNMATA racecar bra made of recycled bike tires.
Headdress: the bane of my crafting existence–
–I don’t think I’ll make my own this time around since I’m not very good at it!
Vaudevillian Salome in the Mardi Gras palette–
–This one’s gonna be shiiinnnnyyy.
Come see the new show and all of our hard work. We dance with even more dedication and inspiration than we sew!!
